What Is Unix/Epoch Time?
Unix time (also called epoch time or POSIX time) counts the number of seconds since January 1, 1970 00:00:00 UTC — the "epoch." It is the universal standard for tracking time in computing: databases, APIs, log files, and every major programming language use it. Because it is a single number with no timezone ambiguity, it is ideal for storing and comparing timestamps across systems worldwide.
The 32-bit signed integer limit (2,147,483,647) will be reached on January 19, 2038 at 03:14:07 UTC — the Y2K38 problem. 64-bit systems are not affected.
